This tea was a fall and winter favorite at the market. Spices are blended with bamboo and rooibos tea to create a decaf tea that warms you down to your toes. Rooibos tea makes a full-bodied chai blend with a beautiful red color. It always reminds me of the book “The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency”. Rooibos and Bamboo are two leaves that can take extreme heat so you can make a brew by boiling the tea in the traditional chai manner. Adding milk and sugar to it makes for a great after-dinner tea.
Roobios is rich in antioxidants more than green tea. Aspalathin is a flavonoid found only in this tea and is a powerful anti-inflammatory. It is a heart-healthy tea shown to reduce vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis. Roobios is also rich in minerals and contains orienting and luteolin that increases mineral absorption in bones.
A great way to use this tea is chai syrup – simply boil 1 cup of water with 1 tsp of tea, strain and add 1 cup of sugar. This can be added to so many things including cocktails. Try blending with whiskey or run as a simple blend. For a fun fall, cocktail add 5 tsp of tea to 16 oz of vodka and infuse for one week or more shaking the mixture once a day, strain and add the chai syrup to taste. This can be diluted with tea or enjoyed over ice.
