Bamboo: an organic supplement – capsules (6 pack)

$129.95

Looking for great hair and nails in the new year?  Increasing silica in your diet is a great way to promote hair and nail growth.  Silica adds elasticity to the skin by building collagen the glue that holds us together and makes our bodies flexible yet strong.  This package contains 6 bottle of 60 capsules.

This organic bamboo powder supplement is unlike any on the market.  The bamboo has been heat processed so that the nutrients from bamboo can be absorbed.  This powder is made from the leaves of the bamboo plant, If your supplement is white or cream colored it is made from another part of the bamboo and this could be the culm or the shoot. Without testing the product it is hard to tell. It is important to know because extracting nutrients from these parts needs to be done with certain processes to ensure potency and safety. If it is white it has also been bleached. Bambusa vulgaris is the one bamboo that I would not recommend and this is one I see advertised often. It is high in the cyanic glycoside the bitter compounds that are concentrated in the shoots and the culm and so requires a lot of heat treatment to be ingested. Unfortunately at this time if you are not buying from a trusted source it is completely unclear as to what you are purchasing.

Bamboo is a fibrous grass that for humans is hard to digest at best.  Breaking down the cellular structure of bamboo is important to make the nutrients bio-available. The leaves can be altered using heat other parts of the plant require more processing. As a grass, bamboo has an extraordinary ability to assimilate all of the nutrients in the soil. This is partially because it is such a good photosynthesizer – this means it collects lots of sugars and trades them through an extensive network of fungal and bacterial partnerships for minerals such as phosphorus, calcium, manganese, magnesium, copper, zinc, iron, and silica as well as a slew of other nutrients.

The powder is a a whole supplement form of bamboo and can easily be added to smoothies or other foods. Two capsules or 2 grams (approximately 1 tsp) have 30 mg of silica which is the recommended daily amount needed.
